Right! So, everybody should learn how to fraps it up so we can have different POVs in our fights, and make some fancy videos for the boards, or at least for ourselves.
First:
You'll need to grab a cracked version of fraps, or buy the real thing if your moral compass is all skewed. You can get a cracked version here: tinyurl.com/3d6met
Once you get it all installed and decide to run it to change some options, there are some things you'll need to customize towards your computer. For instance, under the "Movies" tab, you'll have a video capture hotkey, option to record sounds, half-size, etc, etc.
You should never record your sound, as it will pick up your microphone, daoc sounds, vent sounds, random beeps, etc. This will add much more stuff to compress and increase the video size overall. So, preferably, do NOT record sound.
Next, the difference between using "Half-Size" and "Full-Size". Fraps has a built in auto-sizer for your screen resolution, and if you use Full Size, it will try and mimic your current resolution. So, if you use over 1024x768, then try out full size. However, be warned that it will also make a larger video since the resolution is bigger. Half-Size will use half the size of your resolution, or substantially lower. Unfortunately, half size cannot go past 800x600.
Lastly, is the FPS range on the right hand side of, 25fps, 30, 50, 60, and a custom fps option. This will show the range that your fraps will try and pick up during it's recording. However, it will also increase the size of the videos dramatically. If you decide to record at 60fps, then we'll have the greatest quality from your end, but it will also be around 3 gigs+ for a 2 minute fight. Best bet is to use the customized option, and find a medium of quality/size. Try and remember that our eyesight and brain are only able to render 30 frames for it to become a motion. If it's under 30 frames, it will chop to us. If it's 60 frames, we can't tell the difference as long as it's over 30.
Right! So, start frapsing, and then we'll work on compressing next.
